Our herd is growing. We now have second generation alpacas. Four new crias arrived this season. The alpacas are fed organic hay and grass. Eight females were bred with a feisty black macho in the summer.
We have shorn thick brown, beige, and white fleece. The goal is to eventually create vests and jackets with leather accents and large buttons. Another winter project.
We will have a herd of 10 ewes. Small beginnings . Black bellies are meat sheep. They are fed organically hay and grain.
We will breed them all later in the fall and anticipate to have lambs in April next year.
We built 20 birdhouses that are scattered in the tall trees allover the farm. For the last 2 years the bird population has steadily increased. We often see and hear chickadees, swallows, finches, sparrows, robins, blue jays, woodpeckers, and magpies.
We hope to extend our birdhouse project with houses for bats and owls.
We attempt to grow proteas from seeds and will re-plant them into our tunnels next spring. The tunnels' soil is organically prepared with alpaca beans and mushroom compost.
We hope to grow red and white Protea replens as our initial attempt.
